A piece of history moored in Chelsea Harbour Marina, ‘Aberdonia’ is a Dunkirk Little Ship with a rich history. Built by Thornycroft in 1935 as a gentleman’s yacht, she served at Dunkirk in 1940 and as a patrol boat during the remainder of the war.
Chelsea Harbour Marina, with its excellent transport links and proximity to Chelsea, has been her mooring for over 30 years. However she will happily take you on holiday upriver as far as Abingdon, or to sea should a new owner wish to participate in the 2020 commemorative return of the Little Ships to Dunkirk and add another plaque to the saloon bulkhead. The twin Perkins engines been well maintained and regularly serviced. There are 5 heavy-duty batteries, new in 2017.
There is a comfortable double bunk and storage space in the aft end, a shower with a teak shower tray, and separate basin and loo. Going forward, the saloon is roomy, with a table seating eight and recently re-upholstered seating. The galley has 2 sinks, a Franke filter tap, a fairly new 3-hob gas cooker with oven and grill and 2 fridges. The forward end has 2 single bunks for guests but could easily be adapted to a double bunk.
The forward deck has a table and seating for entertaining, and aft of the wheelhouse there's an outside steering position, with a table and seating for guests. This area is fully canopied, as is the aft deck which also has a table and seating. The inside steering position in the wheelhouse is still fully operational. All areas have storage.
Aberdonia also has much of her original wood and fittings. Every attempt has been made to preserve the integrity of the original, while incorporating modern amenities.
Only the encroaching age of the owner brings this Little Ship to market.
"Aberdonia" is moored on a leisure licence at the popular and highly desirable Chelsea Harbour. Unless riverhomes notifies you in writing, we are only selling this vessel and not the mooring. The rental of the mooring is by separate negotiation with the marina or mooring management. All prospective buyers should make their own enquiries to them directly to understand the ongoing costs and mooring fees payable by a new owner.
